ShapeScale 3D Body Scans in Andover That Show Whether Your Plan Is Working

You did the work, and the scale either stopped moving or dropped in a way you didn’t like. Two months in, you honestly can’t tell if any of it counted.

A ShapeScale scan settles that question. It builds a 3D model of your body and measures where you lost fat and where you held onto muscle, or even built some. That gives you something real to look at instead of a number you have to argue with.

We’re a physician-owned, physician-supervised med spa on Central Street, and every body plan here runs under the oversight of Dr. MaryAnn Millar, M.D., our Medical Director. With a scan in hand, you can see the change for yourself instead of taking our word for it.

Tell us what you’ve tried and where it stalled, and we’ll let you know if a baseline scan makes sense.

What You Get From One Body Scan

The scan asks very little of you. You stand still on a small platform while a robotic arm makes one slow circle around you, and the whole thing takes less than 60 seconds. Here’s what you walk away with:

  • A photorealistic 3D model of your body that you can rotate and view from any angle.
  • More than 20 measurements from areas like your waist, hips, thighs, and arms.
  • A body fat estimate and a read on lean mass, so fat and muscle aren’t lumped into one number.
  • Heat maps that color in where you got smaller and where you added size since your last scan.
  • Side-by-side comparisons of any two scans, saved in the ShapeScale app so you can look them over at home.

Your results are usually ready within a few minutes.

How We Use Your Scans at Our Andover Office

The picture is only the start. What matters is what we do with it.

Your first scan is performed before treatment begins and serves as your baseline. From there, we rescan at set points in your plan and walk you through the results in person.

What we look for depends on your plan. With EMSCULPT NEO, the heat map should show muscle filling in where your sessions are aimed. With medical weight loss or a GLP-1, rescans track what kind of weight is coming off. They’re also how we check whether a muscle preservation peptide protocol is doing its job.

Level Up’s owner, Michael Napolitano, is a trained exercise physiologist. Because of that, we care as much about where your body changed as how much it changed. Our medical director oversees the medical side of every plan.

And when a scan shows something isn’t working, we’d rather change the plan than sell you more of the same. That’s the idea behind our whole approach to nonsurgical body contouring, where the goal is less fat and more muscle and the scan is how we check both.

Why the Number on the Scale Stops Telling You the Truth

problem once you start changing your body, because those three often move in different directions.

Say you start a body contouring plan and trim some fat in the same month. You might lose two pounds of fat and gain a pound of muscle, but the scale only reports a one-pound loss. It feels like nothing happened. That’s usually the month people start doubting a plan that was actually working.

GLP-1 medications cause the opposite problem. The scale drops fast, but part of what comes off can be muscle. So the number looks great while your arms go soft, and your shape flattens out. People call this “skinny fat,” and it’s easy to miss until it has already happened.

A body composition scan shows you what the scale misses in either direction, while there’s still time to adjust.

What a 3D Body Scan Can and Can't Tell You

It’s only fair to tell you the limits before you book. A 3D scan reads the outside of includingwhich means your shape, your size, and how both change over time.

It isn’t the same as a DEXA scan, which uses low-dose X-rays to measure fat, muscle, and bone directly. ShapeScale estimates body fat from your shape, so it’s best to treat that number as a trend line rather than a lab result.

The manufacturer also says it can’t measure the fat around your organs as accurately as DEXA, ultrasound, or CT. It doesn’t check bone density, and it isn’t a medical test, so it won’t diagnose anything. For those questions, your primary care doctor is the right place to start.

Where the scan really helps is consistency. Because every scan is taken on the same machine in the same stance, you can line up your first scan against your fourth and trust the comparison.

Questions People Ask Before Their First Scan

You don't. Tight, fitted workout clothes work best, like leggings or compression shorts with a sports bra or fitted top. Loose fabric blurs your outline and throws off the measurements, so try to wear something similar each visit.

There's no radiation involved. The scanner uses cameras and infrared depth sensors that read the surface of your body, and nothing passes through you.

It depends on your plan. Bodies change slowly, and scanning too often mostly picks up day-to-day swings in water and digestion. At your first visit, we'll set checkpoints that match your treatment schedule.

That happens, and one flat scan isn't a verdict. We look at the trend across several checkpoints before we decide anything, and then we tell you plainly what we see.

Your first visit is just a conversation, with no obligation. If a scan won’t help you, we’ll tell you.
