About IPL
If you are bothered by how your skin looks because of sun damage or dark spots, Level Up Med Spa can offer you a skin consultation at our Andover, MA office to see if you could benefit from intense pulsed light therapy (IPL). An IPL photofacial is a treatment that rejuvenates the skin for adults with hyperpigmentation problems on their face and neck. IPL may not be an invasive procedure, but it can be very effective and produce amazing results. Dr. MaryAnn Millar M.D. can provide more details about how this process sends intense wavelengths of light that warm the skin just enough to set off the natural regeneration process and boost collagen production. As the added nutrients take effect, you should see a healthier layer with a more even tone and decreased spots of pigmentation.
Ideal Candidates
An IPL photofacial works deep within the layers of your skin to treat many complexion blemishes (especially sun spots and brown lesions) with little or no recovery needed. Ideal candidates for an IPL photofacial at Level Up Med Spa may have several problems with their skin, including sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), rough texture, large pores, flushing, freckles, age, and sun spots, or spider veins. Dr. Millar M.D. will assess your skin to see if you are a candidate for an IPL photofacial during your private consultation.
Procedure Technique
A photofacial is done inside our Andover, MA office in about 20 – 30 minutes in one of our minor procedure rooms. To start the photofacial, the technician will clean and dry the skin to be treated before covering your eyes with shields. The photofacial is administered using a handheld device that passes over the skin while emitting pulses of laser energy. While most patients will feel some discomfort during the photofacial, it is generally tolerable for the quick treatment time.
Level Up Med Spa Reviews
Awesome place! Friendly staff. Professional. Up front about potential risks. Up front about the great results. Highly pleased with my results. Will be going back
Great experience at Level Up Med Spa! I came in for a consultation and Mike was so helpful and knowledgeable. The spa was spotless. I’m looking forward to my treatments!
True professionals with amazing skill with the most updated treatments highly recommend
Dr. Millar saved my life twenty years ago when on my first visit to her she insisted I get a mammogram. Not in the upcoming future but immediately. Upon the results I was sent for a sonogram and then a biopsy. In less than 6 weeks I had had a radical mastectomy and she would be doing a total hysterectomy due to having estrogen positive breast cancer after a six week recovery from the breast surgery. For the last twenty some years she has always been up front and honest with me good, bad. I have such respect for her and her professional and always very caring medical performance, which includes emotional health as well as physical.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable. They work with you to reach your optimum goals. They have the most innovative treatments available. I had a great experience and highly recommend booking a consultation.

What to Expect
There is no recovery period associated with a photofacial treatment, but you will leave your appointment with your skin a little inflamed and red. This will go away on its own in about a day, and it can be concealed with makeup as needed. Level Up Med Spa recommends patients use an ointment on the skin to decrease irritation and speed up the healing process. It also helps to take an anti-inflammatory medication to ease swelling. After several days, the irregularities that rested under the skin will come to the surface and then begin to flake off. It's critical to keep your skin protected from the sun at all times after a photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin while it heals. While you should see visible results after the first session, your skin will attain the best results after several photofacial sessions. Dr. Millar M.D. recommends approximately 3 – 6 treatments scheduled around once a month at Level Up Med Spa.
